In the constraint of Summer Festival (belonging to Hue Festival 2024), Hue Nam Festival carries out the procession of Mother-Goddess on road, rehabilitate a unique and big folk carnival in Thua Thien Hue.
Hue Nam Festival 2024 will be done on April 10-11, 2024 (Lunar March 2-3) at the Ritual Hall of 352 chi Lang Street and Hue Nam Shrine (Huong Tho Commune, Hue City). The festival is to preserve and enhance the cultural values as well as the ritual relics, satisfy the public spiritual need in practising the Mother-Goddess Worshipping, the representative of intangible cultural heritage of humanity acknowledged by UNESCO.
Hue Nam Festival at Hue Nam Shrine (also called Hon Chen Shrine) is a traditional activity of the Mother-Goddess Worshipping in Lunar March and July every year. The activity is religious colorful and joyful, as assessed, hence can attract tens of thousands of participants. It is considered a traditional cultural folk festival of Hue.
Hue Nam Shrine Sponsoring Board, the Department of Culture and Sports of Thua Thien Hue and other authorities coordinate to carry out the Mother-Goddess Procession on road as early as 6.00 AM of April 10. The procession will move from 352 Chi Lang Street to Nghenh Luong Dinh Pavilion, which is approximately 3km. After the Peace-praying ceremony, the road procession will do the boat procession to be upstream to Hue Nam Shrine for the main rite. The activity is to rehabilitate and build a special and big folk carnival, with which the ancient colorful costumes, typical pieces of music and dance of the Mother-Goddess Worshipping, a local belief honoring the female roles, are seen.
The Mother-Goddess Procession on Huong River includes tens of double dragon boats as the ritual ferry and single dragon boat as the palanquin keeping the emperor’s edict accompanied with such ritual tools as parasols, flags, fans, and etc. In addition, there are Mother-Goddess’ assistants and pilgrims. The Main Rite, the Peace Praying, the Thanksgiving and the Festival-Ending will be done at April 11.
