Key programs at Hue Festival 2020
The 11th Hue Festival (from August 26, 2020 to August 31, 2020) is a milestone marking the 20-year journey of formation and development of a national culture, arts and tourism festival, which has earned international stature.
The 11th Hue Festival (from August 26, 2020 to August 31, 2020) is a milestone marking the 20-year journey of formation and development of a national culture, arts and tourism festival, which has earned international stature.

Overcoming difficulties and challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the upcoming Hue Festival is clear evidence for the vigorous vitality of the land with culture quintessence. This is a golden opportunity to promote Hue and Vietnam as friendly and safe destinations and a driving force to advance and restore socio-economic development, especially tourism economy of Thua Thien Hue.

Under the theme “Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development; Hue: Always Something New to Discover”, visitors will definitely enjoy novel and rewarding experiences in culture, history, and arts during the Hue Festival 2020. This is also a rendezvous of interesting performances of featured and typical art troupes on the main stages of the Noon Gate and Quoc Hoc Square and several venues on walking streets in the city center (taking place nightly from August 27 to  August 31, 2020). 

The Grand Opening Ceremony - 20:00 on August 26, 2020, at Ngo Mon Square: Honoring the traditional and contemporary cultural values of Hue, Vietnam. The program will introduce the endless beauty of Hue, a perfectly harmonious, green, environment-friendly, and four-season flower city.

Street Parades: “Colors of Cultures” - 16:30 from August 27, 2020 to August 31, 2020: Along with the street performances of art troupes, this year's Street Parades will honor the national costume culture through the performances in traditional costumes and typical dances of ASEAN member countries; the procession of mask of Tuồng Huế, a special form of makeup art with a long history and flourished under the Nguyen Dynasty; Thua Thien Hue folk culture festival is going to introduce a number of festivals and performances that have been gradually restored at some localities in the province, combined with the procession of Mẫu (Holy Mother) on the river as part of the Hue Nam Temple Festival, together, they will showcase the rich cultural identity of Hue Ancient Capital. 

Cuisine-fest: “Hue – Capital of Gastronomy” - takes place from August 26 to August 31, 2020 at Thuong Bac Park, hosted by the Viet Nam Cuisine Culture Association, in collaboration with Thua Thien Hue Tourism Association.  The rich culinary heritage and exquisite culinary culture will be introduced at the festival with various famous specialties classified by three main categories: folk cuisine, royal cuisine, vegetarian cuisine. 

Trinh Cong Son’s Music Concert - 20:00 on August 29, 2020, at the Noon Gate’s stage: presenting the musical heritage of musician Trinh Cong Son themed Hue Diary "Hue is my lover, my dream". The concert brings together famous artists whose names are attached to the songs of Trinh Cong Son as well as the young artists whose innovative styles are enthusiastically welcomed by the public. 

The program "Who named the river" - 20:00 on August 28, 2020, at Nghenh Luong Dinh: an art show that takes inspiration from many historical information about the poetic Huong River, once again revealing the mysteries of Hue and the Huong River. It is promised that the viewers will have a pleasant surprise thanks to the exceptionally novel stage and the engaging storytelling in the language of performing arts.  

Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Festival - 20:30 on August 30at the Tu Do (Liberty) Stadium: a party of sound and light for young people and followers of electronic music genres. The Closing Ceremony – Ao Dai Show - 20:00 on August 31, 2020, at Ngo Mon Square: The program themed “The quiet charms of Hue” consisting of three chapters: “The poetic Hue” - “The quiet charms of Hue”  -“The shape of Hue” will be the highlight to wrap up the Hue Festival 2020 and praise the nature or people, honor the beauty and affirm the value and position of the Áo dài in daily life with the collections by famous designers from Hue, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition, many community cultural and sport activities will continuously take place before, during and after the Festival, such as: events in the series of Ao Dai Festival Day, Festival of the National Art Clubs, Kite Festival, Beer Festival, Trade Fair, traditional boat race, SUP race, Hue VNExpress Marathon, art displays, and exhibitions, etc. These fringe events will bring unique experiences to the public and visitors.

Many distinctive, novel, and attractive features of Festival Hue 2020 promise their visitors enjoyment of the intersection between tradition and modernity. Participants will experience the colors of arts and culture and have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the space of an ancient city, which carries the beauty of a bright - clean - green heritage, the city with four seasons of flowers, peacefulness, and happiness.

The ancient capital city of Hue still preserves a rich culinary heritage and a sophisticated culinary culture, which can be seen as a "capital of gastronomy" that captivates tourists.
